We collect as little as we can. This page explains what we do collect, why, who helps us handle it, and how you can get it changed or deleted.
Who is responsible
Mister Haze (KvK 42188243). Questions about your data: hello@misterhaze.com.
What we collect, and why
- Waitlist and updates. Your email address, which walk or product you signed up for, and the date. We use it to tell you when a walk goes live or when we have news. You give this with your consent and can withdraw it at any time. We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Buying a walk. Your name, your email address, the walk, the number of listeners, the payment status and your access code. Payment itself is handled by Mollie; we never see your card or bank details. We use this to give you access, to email you the link and your access code, and to meet our accounting duties, so we keep invoicing records for as long as the law requires (currently seven years in the Netherlands).
- News from Mister Haze, at checkout. When you buy, you can tick a box to hear from us about new walks and news. It is off unless you tick it. If you do, we add your name and email address to our mailing list and use it for that only. You can unsubscribe at any time, or ask us to delete it.
- Emails about your order. After you pay we email you the link to your walk. If you use “Lost your link?” we email it again to the address you bought with. Once you have finished the walk we may send one reminder, a day later, asking for a review. These are service emails about your purchase, not marketing.
- Using the walk. So you can pick up where you stopped, even on a new phone, we store which stops you have done, the places in your group, and the first names that group members choose to enter. Your phone also keeps a random device code, so we know which phone holds which place. We do not link this to anything else.
- Reviews of coffeeshops. If you review a coffeeshop on the guide, we store your rating, your text and the first name you give, if any. We also keep a one-way scrambled version of your connection (not your IP address itself), only to stop the same person posting again and again. We read every review before it appears, and remove it on request.
- Reviews. If you leave a review, we store your rating, your text and the name you give. We read it before it appears on the site, and we can remove it on request.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep the conversation to answer you and to handle follow-up questions.
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider records basic request data (such as IP address and time) for security and to keep the site running.
Your location
The walk player and the guide maps can use your phone’s location to trigger audio and show where you are. This is processed on your device only. We do not receive, store or share your location. You can refuse location access and still use the walks manually.
Cookies and browser storage
We do not use advertising cookies. Your browser stores a few things so the site works the way you left it: your progress on a walk, your audio language and voice, your text size, whether tips are on, and, if you choose to download a walk for offline use, its audio files. These stay on your device and you can clear them in your browser settings. Two small cookies keep your walk open on your phone (your device and your place in the group). A login cookie is used only by our own team for the admin area. If you say yes to Google Analytics (see below), Google sets its own analytics cookies; if you say no, it sets none. We remember your answer in one small cookie for a year.
Visitor statistics
To see how many people visit the site and which pages they open, we count page views ourselves. This count uses no cookies. For each page view we store the page, the website the visitor came from, the country, the type of device and browser, and a scrambled code that changes every day. The code is made from your connection and browser together with the date and a secret, so we can count visitors per day but cannot recognise you from one day to the next, and we do not store your IP address. If you have “Do Not Track” switched on in your browser, we do not count your visit. We keep these statistics for up to 14 months.
Only if you say yes to the question at the bottom of the page, we also use Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited) to see which pages are read and where visitors come from. It sets cookies and sends your page views, shortened IP address and device details to Google. Say no and nothing is loaded from Google. You can change your mind by deleting the cookie “mh_analytics” in your browser, after which the question appears again.
Who we share data with
We use these providers to run the site. They process data on our behalf:
- Vercel, hosting.
- Google, analytics, only if you say yes to it.
- Supabase, our database and file storage for audio and photos (data region: West EU).
- Mollie, payments.
- Resend, which sends our emails (your name, email address and the link to your walk).
Your browser also loads a few things straight from third parties, which then see your IP address and browser details: Adobe Fonts (our typefaces) and the map tile server OpenFreeMap (map images).
We do not sell your data. Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area; where they do, this rests on approved safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to limit or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time. Email hello@misterhaze.com and we will respond within one month.
If you feel we handled your data badly, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
Security
Data is stored with the providers above under access controls, and only our team can reach the admin area. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes
We will update this page when what we do changes, and change the date at the top.
