Audio walks
Amsterdam audio walks
Not a tour. A way in.
Your time. Your freedom. Pause wherever it pulls you: a museum, a coffee, a coffeeshop. Then pick the walk back up when you’re ready.
One self-guided audio walk is out now: High Tolerance, narrated by Mister Haze. Three more follow in November. Just you, your headphones and the city, no group and no fixed start time.

Out now
High Tolerance
Much of it was never permitted. Only tolerated.
On this 2.5-hour audio walk from the Dam to the Spuistraat you hear how Amsterdam handled trade, faith, gender, drugs, press freedom and socialism over seven centuries, and why that tolerance helped make room for its clubs. Worth walking any time of year.

Coming in November
Open Books
Amsterdam began as a toll exemption on a dam in a swamp and became the richest city in the world. Many say modern capitalism started here, with the first stock exchange, shares, credit and risk. It was also where the printers worked: books banned elsewhere were printed here, and ideas travelled with the ships. This walk follows the money and the ink through 750 years: the merchants and the beurs, the open windows with nothing to hide (or a little to show off), a city that plays modest and never quite is. People came and went, then and now. It is the base of the tolerance that came later.

House Rules
Coffeeshop culture, from the inside.
Zoom in. Postwar living rooms to today's regulated storefronts: how a hiding place became an institution, and what got professionalized along the way without losing what made it work. Told by someone who watched it happen, not someone who read about it after.

Coming in November
Local Time
Amsterdam at its own pace.
Zoom in again. Not history. A Tuesday. How a coffeeshop actually fits into an Amsterdammer's day, the same way a bakery or a bike ride does. The Amsterdam that doesn't make it into a guidebook, because it was never trying to be seen.

Along the way.
Every walk comes with Mister Haze’s own picks nearby. Not a list, just what he’d actually tell you if you asked.
They appear on the map as you walk, as small tip markers. Take the detour, or keep going: the walk waits for you.
- EatWhere to get a proper bite nearby.
- CoffeeWhere the good cup is, and where it isn’t.
- SeeWhich museum is worth the detour.

Your narrator
Mister Haze
Mister Haze narrates every walk: a voice in your ear at the right corner, telling you what the sources say about this city’s less official history, in plain words, with a dry joke now and then.
The stories follow the people who made Amsterdam, women and men, traders, believers and printers, from what was gedoogd (tolerated) to what was simply left alone.
How it works
Your pace, not a schedule.
Every walk pauses when you do. Stop for coffee, duck into a shop, sit by the water, pick it up whenever you're ready. No guide waiting on you, no group to keep up with. Just an audio track, a route, and however much time you want to give it.
Built for your phone, not a group.
Open it in your browser, put your headphones in, and go. No app to download, no meeting point, no fixed start time, no minimum group size. Walk it alone, walk it with someone, walk it at 11pm if that's when you're free.
Or walk it together, in sync.
Buy one walk for the group, €5 per extra listener, and every phone plays the same stop at the same moment. Anyone can pause or skip. It updates everyone's, not just their own. No one stuck waiting for someone else's phone to catch up.
Why this is different
Researched, not recycled.
Every route is researched from primary sources, city archives, historical societies, firsthand accounts, not recycled from other guidebooks. Where the history is genuinely disputed, we say so, instead of smoothing it over.
Narrated by Mister Haze.
Not a voiceover hired to sound authoritative, but a narrator with a point of view: a voice in your ear that says what the history is, and says so where it is disputed.
Walked before you walk it.
These walks get refined, stops get tested on foot, routes get adjusted, facts get checked against sources before publication. What you're walking has been walked first.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to download anything?+−
No. It runs in your phone's browser, open the link, put your headphones in, and go.
What if I need to stop halfway?+−
The walk pauses when you do. Pick it up from the same stop whenever you're ready. Nothing resets.
Can I listen without actually walking it?+−
Yes. Every walk also works as a regular audio guide you can listen to from home, in any order.
Can I buy for a group?+−
Yes: one purchase covers the whole group, €5 per extra listener. Every phone plays the same stop at the same moment, in sync.
What if it rains?+−
