Terpenes
Borneol: what it smells like and where else you find it.
By Mister Haze. Published .
What is borneol?
Borneol is a terpene, one of the aromatic compounds plants make. It smells like this: pungent and camphor-like, with a cooling feel. Cannabis is one of the plants that makes it.
Where else you meet it
Rosemary, Artemisia, the Borneo camphor tree (Dryobalanops aromatica) and Blumea balsamifera.
The name
In 1842 the chemist Gerhardt named it 'camphre de Bornéo', Borneo camphor.
What it is used for
Perfumery, and it repels insects.
In a coffeeshop
How much of it a jar has depends on the plant, how it was grown, dried and cured, and how long the jar has been open. We do not promise anything about what it does for you. We can show you the strains whose write-ups describe this smell.
