Your first coffeeshop visit
What to actually expect walking in
It looks less like a shop and more like a living room with a counter, low light, music, people reading or chatting, rarely rushed. You'll be asked for ID before anything else. The menu sits behind the counter or on a board, organised by type and price, sometimes with jars to smell. Staff expect questions and answer them without judgment. This is the most useful part of the visit, not small talk to get through. You order, you pay (often cash), and you're free to sit and use what you bought on-site, or take it with you.
Insider note: Nobody is watching how experienced you look. Asking “what would you recommend for a first time” is completely normal, staff hear it daily.
