Where you can and can't smoke

Since 2023, smoking on the street is prohibited in De Wallen, on Dam Square, Damrak, and Nieuwmarkt, a warning first, then a €100 fine if you carry on. Coffeeshop terraces are exempt. The rule isn't there to spoil the fun. The city is drawing a real distinction between enjoyment and nuisance. Smoke inside, smoke on a terrace, or smoke at home. Not in an alley full of people who didn't choose to be part of it.
